TCC Holds Orientation for 2015 Internship Students

The Technology Consultancy Centre as part of its objectives in involving the youth in national development has held an orientation session for its 2015 badge of internship students.

The program falls under the International Development and Entrepreneurship (IDE) Unit. By participating in this programme, university students develop practical skills through hands‐on experience and build their professional capabilities. The programme involves students and recent graduates undertaking industrial attachments with local businesses and firms. Through these placements, students get real‐world experience and the small businesses benefit from having the services of a university trained engineer.

The ultimate goal is that students and graduates who participate in the programme will become employable young professionals, with practical skills and the ability to work independently. This program is helping to develop the next generation of Ghanaian professionals working in the business and engineering sectors to support continuing national industrial development.

The event witnessed the presence of senior research fellows from TCC and other faculty members from the College of Engineering including Dr George Y. Obeng, Mr Donald Amrago, Prof. E.A. Mensah and Mr Kenneth Donkor.

In his address, the head of the IDE Unit, Mr Donald Amrago admonished the students to eschew laziness and truancy and work hard to be better engineers. He also advised them to be safety conscious and be in their full working gears which were provided by the College whiles at work.

Dr. George Yaw Obeng, the Director of TCC also told the students to take advantage of this rear opportunity to learn and add practical experience to their theoretical knowledge. Prof. E.A. Mensah of the Department of Agricultural Engineering told the students to take whatever they learn at the workshops very serious.

The Internship programme saw about sixty (60) students being placed in various workshops at Suame Magazine and the various units under TCC over the previous year. This year’s has twenty five (28) students in total. It is a 6 weeks program which starts from 2nd June – 10th July 2015.
