Johnson Opoku Asante is a consultant and a researcher with the Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC) of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, where he has devoted most of his career time working with Small and Medium Scale Enterprises in rural and less privileged communities in the areas of post-harvest technology, irrigation development, rural technology development, water, sanitation and waste management. As the Country Coordinator of the International Development Innovation Network (IDIN), he facilitated several community based Creative Capacity Building (CCB) training workshops for community members, welders and fabricators and other artisans both locally and internationally using the inclusive and co-creation design approach. Before serving as the Country Coordinator of the IDIN programme, Asante worked as the Production Engineer for IDE Ghana, where he worked closely with local fabricators in Suame Magazine in Kumasi to develop irrigation treadle pumps for dry season vegetable farming in the Upper East Region of Ghana.

Asante has academic background in Agricultural Engineering (BSc.) and Water Resource Engineering and Management (MSc.). He has also undertaken a number of research works, training programmes, and technology development and transfer programmes in the area of Appropriate Technologies for Small-Scale and Rural industries, especially in Food Processing, Machine Design and Manufacturing and Installation of Irrigation Pumps for institutions like Ministry of Food and Agriculture of Ghana under the Food Crop Development Project (FCDP).  He has also worked as the lead organizer of international and local engineering summits and training workshops which include the International Development Design Summit (IDDS) and the Practical Impact Alliance (PIA) Co-design Summit.
